On September 22, 2000 we left for Tahiti and Moorea for eight days with Nouvelle Frontier. NF provided all travel, transfers and hotels; all of which was professionally done. They use minimally acceptable hotels for the lowest-cost possible trip. Tahiti and Moorea exceeded expectations; notably Papeete in that it was a fun and lively town with much to do and see even though it is a typical port city for anywhere in the emerging third world...fun. The people, native and French ex pats, were all most delightful warm and friendly. The scenery is incredible, vertical volcanic mountains covered with lush jungle down to crystal-clear water in a barrier coral reef setting. Good food, and not too expensive for the quality. Fish is what to eat, though the local beef raised on Tahiti-Iti is excellent. Local tours were good; though compared to countries/islands with older or larger ancestry, the archeological sites are much smaller and less refined though still spiritually powerful. Aquatic sports are the primary activities, and without them, three to four days are adequate to see an island. For a vacation of pure leisure, there is no time limit to simply absorbing the beauty.
