This is the Marae Anapua, located in the high, inland Papenoo Valley on Tahiti. Access is via the 4X4 tour, but a carefully driven rental car can easily get here when not too muddy. The area is very serene and, even in the dry season, very damp. Mosquitoes abound. Differing from the experience with native guides in Moorea, here the guide clearly stated that that it was "taboo" to enter the sacred walls of the Marae, which we respected. The 4X4 tour was a good deal, but part of the road was out and we didn't get to traverse the island; which would have been better.
