Menu to Pictures of Beijing and Surrounding Area Sites
Beijing was the first stop on our tour of China; and one of the "Must Do" things for all is to visit and perhaps climb the "Great Wall". Here are Bron, myself and our friend "EJ" after having climbed the 1,850 or so steps to the top of this section of the wall. We would be a bit sweaty now as it was in the 90's that day and the steps are very steep and vary in height from 4" to 20" tall and different depths. The crowds here are huge, as usual for all national sites of significance, and predominantly Chinese in origin. This we found wonderful as it shows that the citizens are at aneconomic status to enable tourist travel as well as showing an interest in their national treasures.
A note, EJ had just had knee replacement surgery a few months before and was definitely breaking his doctor's orders by taking on such a strain (the embarassment was that he beat us to the top).
