Here we are part of the way up the 1,850 or so stairs of the Great Wall at Badaling. Climbing this extremely well-renovated section of the Great Wall was safe given all of the superior work that went into it; but it remains a physical chore given the steepness which you can see here as well as the varying heights of the steps.
Tourists from all over the world flock to this and other popular Great Wall sites. I would expect few are disappointed with their experience, especially if they consider the need for all of the accompanying tourist "stuff" to provide a safe event for millions of people each year.
I will admit, however, that the tourist curios were perhaps the most cheesy such items I'd seen at any site of such significance anywhere in the world. Got one anyway of course...
