The "Paris of the East", the "Whore of the Orient"; Shanghai was our last stop in China. Starting the tour with Beijing and finishing with Shanghai shows Chian at their largest and in many ways best. Shanghai is the future for China. This is the old trading capital, and they are planning on having it replace Hong Kong as the future trading capital.
It has the old and new, nowhere better displayed than the two sides of the Huangpo river (a tributary to the nearby Yangtze) where the old and new business districts (Bund and Pudong) face off with each other.
The Pudong airport, recently finished, is modernity itself, and huge. While we were there the computer systems failed and we had to be checked in manually.
This picture is of Bron and me, at our last hotel, during the farewell dinner with the tour group. It was a fun trip, but we are tired and look forward to getting back home.
