Shanghai - Pudong New Area (Pudong Xinqu) 1

Directly across the Huangpo River from the Bund, is the Pudong New Area. This is the future, right in the face of the past. A ultra-modern highrise skyline to challenge anywhere else on earth. This is what the Chinese are betting will replace Hong Kong as the foriegn exchange and business capital of the East. With the government now in charge of both, I think this will happen, but will take many years to accomplish given the waryness of international businesses to deal with closer governmental control.

There are no "sites" to see in the Pudong area other than these new skyscrapers, but what a sight they are in China. It is hard to imagine that only ten years ago this entire 350 square kilometer area was nothing but boggy farmlands supplying the people and restaurants of Shanghai. These buildings aren't yet completely full, the traffic isn't yet bad, but wait....its been built and they will come....
