Wuhan - Yellow Crane Tower (Huanghe Lou) 3

This bronze casting of an early warlord is located at the east end of the park of the Yellow Crane Tower. It was quite large and awe-inspiring. It reminded me of the many sculptures of the Buddhist Lokapala or four heavenly warrior protectors which face each of the cardinal compass points. The web of similarities of decoration goes way back to the Tang and earlier dynasties.

This bronze is one of many beautiful artifacts on display in the Yellow Crane Tower park. Also there are lovely picnic benches along the north side and small alcoves under the trees with benches and some picnic tables. It is farily touristified, including several food and drink vendors, but is still a delightful place to wander through and sit and think.

A cold beer on a hot, humid summer day makes the vendor stands seem pretty OK.
