This is a picture from the east end of the park, looking west at the tower. You can see that the tower is quite a piece of architecture. It has always housed artisans, notably poets, during its history.
You can see the park-like grounds through this shot, and imagine how this park is quite a bit cooler than the surrounding city during the summer.
They sell the "Chrysanthemum" stone in various carved shapes here. Don't buy them here as I did (a frog); here they are several times more expensive than outside the temple grounds.
Some guidebooks play this site down, and I'll admit that it is very much for the tourist, but it has been well done and is quite worth a few hours especially if you would like to slow down just a bit and catch your breath in a lovely and quiet surrounding.
