The sub-tropics is where we are, the humidity and jungles are evidence to this. This is but one of many small waterfalls all along the route we took down the river.
This prevalence of water is what forms the karst peaks and caverns; created where the limestone is dissolved at different rates based on slight chemical variations, leaving the peaks and etching out the caverns. The term "karst" comes from an area in Slovenia where this same type of formation was studied.
We had "snake wine" on the boat; which was really a cheap clear brandy-like drink which was poured into a bottle stuffed with snakes. My guess was that the snakes had seen zillions of fillings of the brandy and no new snakes. I tried but the smallest sip, and couldn't detect any "snake" flavoring at all. One of our crew had his fun with it, though, and played it to the hilt. Everyone loves tourists.
