Guilin - Cormorant Fishermen on the Li River

Old viewed by the new. Here are a couple of fishermen who use a trained cormorant (that's the black bird on the raft) to fish. The cormorant dives and swallows the fish, then they are extracted from the bird's throat and put into the basket.

We watch while going downstream on an air-conditioned tour boat, having a warm meal (not one of the better ones) and a snifter of brandy with a cold beer chaser. Usually, the food we ate while on this entire trip was from good to excellent. On this tour boat, it was somewhat less than most other places, but I would highly recommend eating anywhere in China. Look out for things too hot, but otherwise we were quite pleased. Notably the vegetables were usually fresh and excellent. Noodles were also great. Fish were also excellent, as were most meat dishes, but some of these lacked a bit.
