Wuhan - A Buddhist Temple by the Bridge

This picture was taken out of our hotel window. The bridge is the 'Wuhan Yangtze River Big Bridge' (Wuhan Changjiang Daqiao). This is the first major construction project completed by the Communist government of Mao Tsetung. It is 1,100 meters long, and 81 meters high.

In front of it is a small Buddhist Temple that, as far as we could figure, was closed (though it was obvious that somebody wsa keeping it maintained). This might have once been a private residence, it is hard to tell.

We walked across this bridge to visit the Yellow Crane Tower. The walk across was quite spectacular; though the bridge itself, completed in 1957, could stand some maintenance.

There was a short walking path from the hotel along the river to the bridge, where thankfully there was a $1Y elevator to the walking deck.
