Siem Reap - Beng Mealea - 2006

Here are the ladies trekking behind our guide Som on the path through the jungle.  This is the one place that I got bitten by a fly of some sort, which worried Som considerably; thereby causing me some concern.  However, I haven’t grown two heads or fallen over in a dead faint yet, so I’m guessing I escaped any harm.

There were beautiful flowers along the way, and we could hear birds calling in the jungle around us.

As we approached the actual ruins, sitting on a slab of stone was what appeared to be a military man apparently watching an ox graze.  He immediately attached himself to our group to help out with the climbing over the slick pieces of stone.  Something we initially though bothersome proved to be a blessing as the stones were covered with moss and terribly slippery.

This visit was really fascinating as the site was by far more consumed by the jungle than any other and it was interesting to see just what the archaeologists are faced with to restore one of them.
