Siem Reap - Angkor Wat - 2006

Here is an example of one of the sites still being used for worship today.

I believe this was originally a Vishnu statue, but the head was replaced making it into a Buddha. Vishnu normally has four faces and two to many arms, many arms were left intact and a new single-faced Buddha head was attached.   The devoted are still wreathing it in gold garments, burning joss, placing money and leaving food and flowers in their devotions.

This is located in the Entry tower of the West gate of Angkor Wat.

I wonder, and failed to ask Som, if people tended to pray to Buddha, Vishnu or a bit of both here. This isn't such an extreme proposition, I think, as SE Asia seems extremely flexible in worship. Perhaps something from which the West could learn some tolerance. Our experience indicated a generally greater tolerance for variation in beliefs, status and people in general. That is not to contradict the fact of tribal, racial and political persecution that has happened in this area.
