Thailand - Chang Mai - Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Outside of Chang Mai, this is the beginning of the Naga (snake) stairway leading to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a 1601 meter high mountaintop temple from 1383. There are 300 stairs to climb, or perhaps take the tram up and walk down. The monastery at the top is still actively Buddhist and Hindu, though certainly as everywhere in Thailand, predominantly Buddhist. This is again a most serene and beautiful retreat occupying the entire peak of the mountain within its walls, with beautiful views over the valleys.
