Panama City - 2007 - 17

Here is a shot of the entrance area to Portobelo Bay, East-Southeast of Colon and the Gatun Locks. This bay became the main shipping port for the wealth being plundered and removed from South America, Mexico and Central America by the Spanish. This is the land of the mightiest English, French and Dutch 'pirates' of legend. Portobelo became the main 'plunder port' after Sir Frances Drake razed the port of Nombre de Dios and killed most of its inhabitants in 1596. The Spanish who created the settlements and extracted the wealth weren't any saints either, enslaving the people and killing them without a thought; and they gave them the gift of contagious diseases from Europe.
