Yangtze - Three Gorges New River Town for Displaced Persons

Here is one of the 'relocation cities' to which the residents of the Yangtze valley will be moved as their towns and villages are drowned in the rising waters of the reservoir filling the Three Gorges area. The government is providing such dwelling for about 1.2 million people, though the count of spaces indicates that these new cities will accommodate far fewer. Conservative estimates put the population living below the new reservoir level at well over 2 millions, some as high as 3 to 4 millions. You have seen a few pictures of the older towns and villages, and these new ones look to be far better and will, undoubtedly, have much better infrastructure. It remains to be seen, however, what will happen to those for which there is no relocation space, and how productive the new farmland will be relative to that being submerged and lost to the project.
