Guilin - 'Reed Flute Cavern' (Ludi Yan) Stalactites

This is a terrible picture of the Reed Flute Cavern's stunning Stalactites and Stalagmites. This is a huge space, and the lighting is dramatically done to maximize the effect. Unfortunately the tour doesn't allow time for tripods; and the exposure time required to get a picture leads to a minor jiggling of the camera and this lack of focus. Those who manage this cavern complex have done an outstanding job of both the lighting and paths to keep them from damage. Thoughtfulness not found everywhere.

As well as the beauty of the cavern, it is also the coolest place you can go, being a natural evaporative refrigerator. Caves are a natural phenomenon to the varied solubility (karst) of the native limestone that form the peaks for which Guilin is famous.

Don't buy the reed flutes sold at the entrance!
