Catalina Marathon 2007 - 1

Bron won 2nd place in her age group in the 10K run, which was this year's highest placement for our groups of friends.
Alice, Vonda and Bron at the award ceremony. Vonda was suffering from back problems so she joined Jeremy in 'strolling' the 5K instead of running the marathon. Jeremy tries to finish last in this event at a pace that will allow him to not spill his coffee. He was sure he won last, but the results indicate several slower folks. Jeremy is positive they missed the turn-around that marked the official 5K course and so cheated their way to his goal of last by walking a much longer distance.

The traditional after-race event for the San Diego crowd at the Sand Trap to cheer on either the marathon runners or ourselves with a beer or two. Here are Mike, Gail, Suzy and Jim all in their 'St. Patty's Day' green glasses.

In 2007, we again ventured over to Catalina having missed this event since 2001. Bron and I combined it with a visit to old friends of Bron's mother in East LA. We had a pleasant stay in LA for a couple of days, then with Alan & Alice in San Diego for a couple of days, then over to the Island.

Here are the four of us on the wall at the Casino, looking back across Avalon Bay at the town and surrounding foothills.

Here are Gail and Bron, this year Gail won 3rd place in the 5K. I missed the award for Suzy from San Diego who received the 3rd place in the 10K for her group.

Here are newcomers Bob and Carol at the Sand Trap. We hope to see them again in future events.

On the return ferry-trip, the captain slowed to allow us to see a spectacle of thousands of porpoise, the largest pod I've ever seen. They covered many acres of ocean surface.
