San FelipeTrips - 1

In early 1968, just after I had bought this brand-spanking new VW Beetle for $1,950, including tax, license and a full tank of gas, JT and I made a road trip to San Felipe. Here we stop along the salt flats, probably to get rid of some excess beer. As you can see, the scenery going to San Felipe is quite varied and lush.

And what's amazing is that here is Jim eating whatever it was I cooked. You should know from this how bad we felt.

We finally made it to Ensenada Blanca and set up camp. Here we are restoring ourselves for the upcoming night.

This trip I remember for the quality of the hangover on the first day. JT and I had, as you saw above, started the trip with a belly-full of beer. We proceeded to try to drain the bars in town, then went looking for our campsite at Ensenada Blanca. We couldn't find a place we had been to dozens of times before so we just stopped and camped. It was right alongside the road next to the Ice Plant. Here I am cooking breakfast and I feel much worse than I look.
