Siem Reap - Tonle Sap Lake - 2006

This is a snapshot of the channel from the Siem Reap River estuary into the lake.  These are fishermen returning, at this point in time, from their day’s efforts to the floating villages in the estuary.  Some are fishing in the estuary.  Once out on the lake proper, the view is just like being on an ocean, no sight of land, only a vast expanse of water with waves higher or lower depending on the wind conditions.

Notice the greenery, the tops of trees, as this is in the “wet season”, towards the end of it, so the lake is pretty high.  Later, the floating village will be much further out towards the main body of the lake and this will be a very narrow and shallow river channel.
