Siem Reap - Siem Reap River - 2006
This is a typical shot taken along the Siem Reap river towards Tonle Sap lake. Mainly pole-framed houses with thatch or wooden lap-board siding, thatch or metal roofs and plank floors. The stilt foundations are to allow for the rainy season and the annual flooding. Notice the TV antennae at most every house; along with the motor scooter (seen from the road usually). The poverty isn’t quite as bad as official statistics would make out, but it is much worse than any other country in SE Asia with the possible exceptions of Burma and N. Korea.
