Siem Reap - Phnom Bakheng - 2006

One of two “Guardian Lions” to the old and very steep footpath up to the hill temple of Phnom Bakheng, which we didn’t actually visit but settled for looking at the old path up and these lions.

This is the spot where hoards of tourists flock for the approach of evening and the view from the top over Angkor Wat and all the way to Tonle Sap Lake, if the conditions are clear.  One problem is that it is very seldom clear here with the high humidity and general pollution.

One can even hire an elephant to ride up to the top; something that was on our agenda but had to be put aside due to our busy schedule and desire to see all that we could.
