On the flight from Hanoi to Siem Reap, Jeremy sat next to a young man from Korea. We tried to communicate and share some conversation, but neither spoke the other’s language other than a very few words of English on his part, none on mine. We did draw pictures of our respective countries to show were we each lived. He helped me with my laptop as I made my clumsy move and spilled water on the keyboard.
At the end of the flight, he approached me as we waited for Immigration and gave me his business card and wanted our picture taken, as did I.
Since then, a Korean friend, Suga, helped me communicate with Dong-min Suh. We exchanged email and hopefully we can be “pen-pals” and keep in touch; finding out about each other, our respective homes and families, and possibly even visit one another sometime in the distant future.
