Continuing further north, we arrived at the 1st Thai capital of Sukhothai. This is the largest and most complex of the ancient capitals. The grounds are magnificent, integrating outstanding examples of the Khmer, Hindu and Buddhist art forms and architecture. The use of the City-State as flood-control to avoid the cycle of flooding and drought and its impact on agriculture is most evident. The grounds are extremely serene. Local kilns are examples of early culture. A moat surrounds the original city.
