In September, 2005, Bron and I planned a trip to Portugal, a country in Europe that I missed in earlier visits. We decided to visit the central and north-central areas, from Lisbon to Oporto. I made reservations for a couple of nights and rented a car; otherwise we were without schedule or plans.
This was a great trip! We thuroughly enjoyed ourselves and our lack of plans was a highlight. Travelling in mid-September is the right thing to do as the tourists are gone and the weather is still great. We even found 4-star hotels with vacancies and offering deep discounts to drop-ins.
The places were beautiful and the people we met were wonderful. They still like Americans, they are open, helpful, warm and friendly. The food is delightful...especially the seafood. Enjoy!
