This is a typical small town along the river. Note, there are no roads in the town to be seen, though I'd guess that there are one or two that go back up the sides of the gorge and out to the higher elevations.
Also note, the residents simply throw their trash out downhill. This will all be inundated by water, and the resulting pollution absorbtion by the new reservoir will, I believe, over time be devastating. I didn't see any water treatment facilities, so I'd imagine their sewage simply runs into the river, at most after percolating through shallow septic systems.
The one good thing is, currently all of this simply flushes directly into the ocean. After the completion of the dam, it will settle out to a much greater extent and simply pollute the reservoir and the people around it. From a world perspective, I think that is an improvement.
