Yangtze - Coal Shipping Small Barge

You can barely see the road, one of very few along the river, from which the nearby mines deliver the coal via truck to the storage pits. Then, from the pits it is manually shoveled into the long chutes that drop it down to the barges to be delivered to those towns and villages that have no road access.

This is a smaller coal barge, with little to no facilities for other than coal delivery and probably the housing of the owner/operator's family.

In this case, it looks like the local demand has dropped off and the coal bin on the left hasn't been used in quite some time; even the chute is gone for the most part. Probably scavenged to keep the one on the right functioning.

These smaller barges haul coal, ore, cement, iron and other building materials all up and down the river. They make up a significant amount of the traffic.
