Xian - Army of the Terracotta Warriors (Bingmayong) 2
Here is a view down the long axis of the main dig (number 1), giving some sense of the size of the space. This first-ever emperor of all China, Qin Shiihuang, was made King of the state of Qin at the age of 13. By the time he was 38, he had conquered the six surrounding states, uniting China for the first time in history. He was both a tyrant and a brilliant administrator, forcing hundreds of thousands of peasents into laboring on his many projects, killing many of them in the process; and also implementing uniform laws, administration, defense, economy and education to protect the new Empire of China. His main tomb, said to be filled with untold riches, has yet to be excavated or for that matter definitely found. The tomb mound that is shown as his burial place may well prove to be a decoy set up to fool grave robbers and other enemies, a not uncommon practice of the times.
