Santa Cruz Winery Trip June 2000
I had a business trip to San Jose, so Bron, Gary and Daryl flew out for the weekend at Santa Cruz. Here is a shot of us on the deck of our hotel. We had to stay across from our usual hotel because they were full for the summer season. Awful weather as you can see. That's Monterey Bay in the background.
We started the tour as usual at David Bruce Winery because it is the furthest away from town on the main loop. Great Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Syrah: http://www.davidbrucewinery.com/
This is one of the smaller wineries on the loop, I've forgotten which, but will try to get it right on the next trip.
Left, we are at Storr's winery, right downtown in Santa Cruz. Great Zin and Barberas: http://www.storrswine.com/
This is another of the smaller wineries on the loop, I've forgotten which, but will try to get it right on the next trip.
Right, we are at Bonny Doon home of outrageous labels on great wines. Home of the "Rhone Rangers"; the vintner, Randall Graham, being the first to start emulating the Rhone blend of varitels in California, and certainly the weirdest anywhere.
I got hooked on his wines years ago with his "Le Cigar Volant" (the flying cigar), a rhone blend that I still love. Try his website: http://www.bonnydoonvineyard.com/
